“The Fast and the Furious” Movie Review

Hey, Frayed Wire readers! This is a review Josh made on his old site, but is now being moved here!

Everyone’s heard of this movie, right? It’s The Fast and the Furious, the action-packed street racing thriller that came out back in 2001. I finally decided to rent it on Netflix, and and I can’t say that this was a bad movie at all. It’s fun and fast-paced, except for a few talking scenes.

The movie is about Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker), an undercover cop who infiltrates the local street-racing community so that he can figure out who’s behind a series of recent big-rig truck hijackings. He suspects Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his gang are doing the hijacking, so he gets closer to them to find out. Of course though, O’Connor befriends Toretto, and soon the cop struggles with the fact that his buddy might be the criminal that he’s come to look for.

The Fast the Furious has many awesome street-racing scenes in it, as well as high adrenaline chase scenes. The dark world of underground street-racing is portrayed nicely – the atmosphere, the frequent swearing; everything. And is it just me, or does every single girl in this movie seem to be a hooker? Women certainly are going to hate this movie, since it makes them seem like nothing more than objects for men.

Then again, I don’t think that this movie was really meant for girls anyway. This is for guys who like cars, speed, and action. And in that respect, the movie is great. As an unexpected bonus, the story is actually nice and deep, too! The DVD (the ”Tricked Out” edition is what I saw) is also full of features and flashy menus.

With very good car scenes, very cool cars, and a good story, I give The Fast and the Furious a

Final Score: 8 out of 10

Cool site man! This is still my favourite of the Fast and Furious movies. The others were too much of a let down. Maybe if they hadn’t been put under banner of FF they could have stood on their own a little better. Also the new one was petty disappointing.

Anyway, thanks for the review, it makes me want to watch it again. I am going to have to rent it off of Netflix now.

From first frame to last, this is an unabashedly B-Picture, elevated by A-level stunts but dragged down to C-level characterizations. Fun, loud and stupid. Just the way I like ’em. Good review, check out mine when you can!
