The Wilhelm Scream

If you’ve seen a lot of movies, like those of us at Frayed Wire, there’s a chance you’ve noticed a certain scream sound effect that keeps popping up in various places. I know I’ve heard it, and I’ve always wondered why it’s used so much. Always wondered until today, that is.

This inside joke of the SFX industry is known as the Wilhelm Scream, created in 1951for the movie Distant Drums and used since in countless different places. Don’t believe me? Watch this contemplation video:
