Iwata’s GDC 09 Keynote Address Highlights

Today was, for many Nintendo fans, the most interesting part of the 2009 Game Developer’s Conference. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, gave a presentation talking not only about Shigeru Miyamoto’s game developing techniques (this was a game developer’s conference after all), but he also made some announcements. Here are the highlights:

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, a DS game featuring Wind Waker-style graphics will be out later this year

– Arcade games are coming to the Virtual Console… in fact, the first ones have appeared today! Space Invaders before too long

Wario Ware: Snapped announced

My Life as a Darklord by Square Enix coming to Wii Ware soon. Also, Final Fantasy to appear on the Virtual Console. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years later this year

– Available today is the Wii System Menu 4, featuring the genuine fix to the “storage problem” people have been complaining about. You can now play downloaded games directly from an SD card, download games directly to the cards, and larger SD cards are supported (up to 32 GB)

Sounds pretty good to me. I’m starting to have faith in Nintendo again.
