Internet Gaming Spotlight: Pandemic 2

It’s not often that you see a non-violent game that’s about wiping out the entire world’s population, but strategy games as unique and interesting as this don’t normally appear on the internet.

Pandemic 2 lets the player create and evolve a disease so that it can best kill off the masses. With current world events displayed on the side of the screen, hints are given as to how best one should evolve the disease. For example, if a country is dealing with widespread flooding, it’s time to make the disease waterborne. Different symptoms can also be added or discarded, and choices between them must be carefully considered. Some symptoms may spread the disease well, but they might also make the infected person appear sick to those around them. Symptoms are bought with points that accumulate when more and more people are killed by the disease. The cool thing is, you can actually see how many people you’ve killed or infected by country or overall by going to specific menus.

The only problem I have with Pandemic 2 is the fact that it doesn’t feel like every choice makes a real impact on the world, but there is still plenty of reason to play this thought-provoking and interesting game.

I sure hope another Pandemic does not hit our world again. I can’t bear to see that many people die!! Hopefully it will stay out of the US again.
